(Emmanuel Gilligan is a father of four children and an active Christian philanthropist who has lived with his musically talented family in Brazil since 1997.)

On March 5^th, 2013, Emmanuel (aka Eman) was gunned down in broad daylight in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

He had just finished withdrawing money from a local bank, when unbeknownst to him, he was followed from the bank by two armed thieves on motorbike.
n a brutal attempt to rob him, they shot him pointblank through his car’s driver side window. The bullet entered his left shoulder and through his thorax,
causing his left lung to collapse. The searing heat from the passing bullet burned a lesion and sent tiny vertebrae fragments into his spinal cord.

Emmanuel was instantly paralyzed from the chest down.

He was rushed to the Miguel Couto government hospital. An excellent team of doctors and neuro surgeons spent the next 16 days stabilizing and treating Eman.
His chest cavity was drained and the left lung re-inflated. Neurosurgeons operated on his spinal cord and successfully removed the bone fragments.

The next step for Emmanuel is physical rehabilitation. He is eager and determined to do the work necessary to recover his body functions.
We are currently seeking admission for Eman in several therapy centers in Brazil and in the U.S.  

Since the tragedy Eman’s family have been inundated with prayers, well-wishes, encouragement and support.
They express heartfelt a THANK YOU to everyone for your prayers and contributions to the Rehabilitation Fund Raiser for Eman.
In some of the most trying hours we have felt literally enveloped in a warm blanket of faith, hope and love.

We do not know what the future holds, but our hearts are assured that God is in control.
